We are proud to sponsor Carl Froch for Biggest Ever British Boxing Match.
As proud sponsors of World Champion Boxer Carl Froch we are delighted to congratulate him on his stunning victory over George Groves at a packed Wembley Stadium.
The John Pye Auctions brand was there in the thick of the action, every step of the way on Carl’s ring fight shorts as The Cobra, Nottingham born and bred, retained his IBF and IBA belts in the grudge rematch.
It was billed as the British Boxing Bout of the Century and both the event and The Cobra didn’t disappoint – providing a stunning grandstand finish with an eighth round KO of arch rival ‘St George’ Groves in front of 80,000 spectators and millions of global viewers..
It was a KO delivered on a world stage with shades of the world famous US heavyweight Rocky Marciano. Boxing pundits have been quick to cite the knockout in the Top 10 All-Time boxing KO’s, alongside such greats as Muhammad Ali, Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson and Mike Tyson.
After a controversial first fight, in which Carl was awarded a technical knockout victory in the 9th round, the rematch billing went into overdrive as both boxers staked their claim to be Number 1 in the ring. The appetite for the event proved to be history making. It was the biggest attended British boxing match since the 1930s with 80,000 tickets sold and Sky Box Office pay-per-view subscriptions peaked towards 1 million UK viewers. The event was attended by a host of celebrities including England World Cup stars Wayne Rooney & Ross Barkley, legendary boxer Frank Bruno, Royal Zara Phillips and husband Mike Tindall, James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sky Football’s Jamie Redknapp, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey, socialite Tamara Ecclestone, TV personality Mark Wright and soap star Michelle Keegan.
Carl said: “That was the best punch I’ve thrown in my life. It landed lovely, closed the show.
“I’m not saying that’s the end but that will be hard to top,” said Froch. “But there is one box that’s not ticked and that’s Las Vegas, the fight capital of the world. It would be nice to do that before I bow out.”
Froch delivered another knockout move after the fight but of a totally different kind, seizing the moment in such a grand event to bow down on one knee and propose to long-standing partner & model Rachel Cordingly, mother of his two children.
Carl added: I did ask Rachael a sneaky question after the fight but it’s not official,’ he said.
‘I told her how much I love her. I didn’t actually officially propose to her. I was going to but I couldn’t sort a ring out,’ he added.
‘I will be marrying Rachael one day. This is the most special moment of my life — the next will be marrying Rachael and making us a proper family.”
Adam Pye said: “Everyone at John Pye Auctions wish Carl, Rachel and family a very happy and healthy summer. They all deserve a restful time after such a momentous event. We look forward to supporting The Cobra in Las Vegas.”
