This website,, now receives 600,000 unique visits a month – a 500% web growth rate in the last three years. Now in its fifth year, The Midlands Family Business Awards, hosted by The Wilson Organisation, showcases the achievements of family businesses and their leaders, giving the region’s best run and most innovative family businesses the chance to shine.

Commenting on the Award, David Stevenson, Partner of category sponsors Shakespeare’s law firm, said: “Picking a winner in this category was really hard given that all the businesses we saw had a great story to tell and were all being run by extremely passionate and deeply engaging individuals.

“However, we were especially taken with the way John Pye & Sons had brought about a material increase in sales by adapting its business model to maximise sales generated from online auctions.

“More generally we were most impressed by those companies which could demonstrate that the growth in their revenues was sustainable. In all cases we were struck by how the family business culture had been maintained, notwithstanding the changes made in the business model and its success in generating sales growth.” Founded in 1968 and employing over 120 staff, John Pye & Sons Limited is the UK’s fastest growing auction house, working on behalf of UK Banks, Finance Houses, Government Authorities, Insolvency Practitioners, Property Owners and Agents and Retail PLCs; managing 5,000 valuation and auction instructions each week across its national network of auction houses that includes five centres in the Midlands and four in London.

John Pye Auctions MD Adam Pye said: “We are honoured and humbled to have had our growth recognised not just within the auction arena but the wider business community.

“This award is recognition for all our staff who have worked hard supporting this growth and a big thank you to our clients and customers. We are very much looking forward to 2015, with many exciting prospects in the pipeline for the business.”

The award follows on from John Pye & Sons receiving Business and Insolvency Asset Auctioneers of the Year 2014 by the UK’s National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers, made up of 300 members nationwide.

Created and organised by third generation family business The Wilson Organisation, the Awards are the Midlands’ only independent, not-for-profit initiative to recognise and celebrate the work and achievements of family businesses and their advisers.

Annabel Prow CEO of The Wilson Organisation added: “Family businesses are the bedrock of the UK and global economies, generate over £1 trillion each year in UK revenues and provide more than nine million jobs in the UK.

“They have played a vital role in sustaining the UK’s economy throughout the recession and will continue to play a major part in its recovery. The Midlands is home to almost half-a-million family businesses, and all entries this year demonstrate the exceptional pedigree of the region’s family businesses.”
