Vehicles FAQs

You will need to register for a John Pye Vehicles account, to bid on vehicles, which you can find HERE (you must be a UK resident to register). Your account for general John Pye Auctions cannot be used to access the Vehicle Auctions’ site.

For vehicle auctions, a £200 refundable deposit (Security Deposit) is required to activate your account, for placing bids, and creating watch lists in your account.

The website operates a ‘3-minute rule’, which means that any person who bids online within the last 3 minutes of the closing time for a specific Lot will trigger the automatic extension of the Lot’s closing time by an additional 3 minutes, and so on for every subsequent bid (if any). This is to give all interested bidders the chance to win any lot and to avoid bid sniping, (which is where bots can be used to place bids in the last second of an auction).

For vehicle auctions, a £200 refundable Security Deposit is required to activate your account and enable you to place bids and/or create watch lists and view invoices in your account.

Security Deposits cannot be deducted from invoice totals.

We will hold on to your Security Deposit until you ask for it to be returned.  To have your Security Deposit returned, please email: deposits@johnpye.com – You will get an email to confirm the refund has been processed however it can take between 3-5 working days for the refund to show in your account.  If you have an outstanding invoice, we will not return your Security Deposit until you have paid for and collected all vehicles that you have successfully bid on.

No, sorry.  Our auction catalogues are online only.

If your bid is successful, the amount you bid is the Hammer Price.

VAT of 20% is payable on the Hammer Price for some lots.  Where VAT is payable on the Hammer Price this is set out in the Lot Description for the specific lot.

Buyer’s Premium of 25% (plus VAT of 20%) is also payable on all lots in addition to the Hammer Price.

The total amounts payable will be

  • Hammer Price (plus VAT at 20%, if applicable), and
  • Buyer’s Premium of 25% of the Hammer Price (plus VAT at 20%).

Prior to submitting your bid, you will be shown the total amount due, giving you the opportunity to change or cancel this amount before you confirm your bid.

Example with no VAT on Hammer Price:

  • Hammer Price £1000
  • Buyer’s Premium £250
  • VAT on Buyer’s Premium £50

TOTAL AMOUNT PAYABLE £1300
