John Pye had always wanted to be an Auctioneer and had a natural flair for the profession with his charismatic charm and acute eye for a sale. Within weeks John Pye had enough saleables to hold a sale with the first auction held at Nottingham’s old Cattle Market in Meadow Lane, in the shadow of Notts County Football Ground, he didn’t own a gavel for his first auction so used a rolled up newspaper instead. The crowd of buyers loved it and John Pye sold all the items. John Pye’s Auctions was up and running.
Within a year John Pye had secured a site at the Corn Exchange at the Cattle Market and John Pye auctions were soon offering livestock, as well as chattels and probate items.
